Solving the measurement of transparent multilayered materials challenge
Transparent products are often of high value with fine tolerances which can be challenging for quality assurance. With more than three decades experience in non-contact measurement, Scantron has proven solutions for measurement of transparent multilayered materials.
We offer technology to accurately measure thickness of thin transparent film, wall thickness of clear medical tubes, glass components and similar materials, or diameter of transparent round products. Examples of our non-contact transparent multilayered measurement solutions in use include monitoring of extrusion thickness of a polymer packaging material, wall thickness and concentricity of glass tubes, and diameter measurement of a transparent coating extruded over a wire or cable. Transparent material diameter measurements
For diameter measurement we offer our Xactum series laser micrometers, with industry leading precision and warranty. These come with ‘glass logic’ to allow flawless signal processing of transparent product measurement either online or offline. These offer the ability for process feedback to automate production.
Measuring wall thickness in transparent products
For wall thickness measurement, NIROX’s sensor – based on interferometric technology – allows for online or offline inspection of this parameter with ease. Using multiple NIROX measuring heads combined with an outer diameter measurement, system such as our laser micrometer, it is possible to obtain a complete cross-sectional profile of round products to inform on concentricity, wall thickness, inner and outer diameter. Between 4 and 8 measurement heads can be positioned around the circumference of the product. Alternatively, a rapid non-contact offline inspection can be achieved for many products with a range of benchtop fixturing approaches available.
These systems and sensors can accurately measure coatings, treatments, sheets and films from a few µm to several mm in thickness with a high degree of accuracy and repeatability.
